Iran vs Spain

As predicted, Iran stole the show in their first game against Morocco with a 95th minute own goal conceded by Morocco. Iran played as they always play, defended deep like lions looking for the odd break. Morocco created much the better chances and should have at least scored a goal (at the correct end) but while they are a technically gifted side they lack a goal scorer.
Spain in their first game played in arguably the match of the tournament so far. The game ended 3-3 but that’s just half of the story. Besides conceding a late stunning free-kick equaliser from Cristiano Ronaldo there were many positives to take from the game for Spain.
Spain went into the game against Portugal with the last-minute sacking of their national coach and former Real Madrid legend Fernando Hierro talking over as interim coach, there were many questions as to how this would affect the Europeans giants. There were also the questions over their striker Diego Costa, who has never lived up to his high reputation in a Spanish shirt. Both questions were answered positively, Spain dominated the play and played with an air of confidence that hasn’t been seen since the World Cup and European Championship winning years. Diego Costa also looked home in a Spanish shirt, scoring two goals and bullying the Portugal defence as he has done throughout for all the clubs he’s played for.
Despite only getting the solitary point from their first game, Spain will be happy to face Iran knowing a win here would virtually secure progress. Iran again won’t change a thing, they will play as they always do, they will defend for their lives and hope to knick something on the break. But Spain are not Morocco, Spain won’t miss chance after chance and with so many creative players on the pitch they will surly create plenty of chances for Diego Costa & co to get all three points.
