Match Preview

The world champions Germany are in a spot of bother after losing their first game against Mexico but more importantly it was the the manner of their defeat that’s most alarming. Germany posed little treat to Mexico’s defence and failed to create any clear-cut chances for their forwards. They were also cut open time after time in defence by the Mexican counter attacks. The Germans have a lot fix in their game if they are to progress any further in this tournament.

Sweden come into this game with 3 points on the board already and a system that has made them a very hard team to beat. Gone are the days when the swedes were associated with open attacking play, this Swedish team is a pragmatic one and give little away. Sweden will be happy to come away with a point here knowing Mexico will probably be qualified by the time they meet them for their last game. Their game plan will be simple; stop the Germans playing and give nothing away.

The Germans can’t afford anything but a win here, they will have to play much better and offer much more attaching threat if they are to get all three points. There’s much talk of change in formation and personnel but Joachim Low is renowned for loyalty and stability, there’s little chance of major changes at this stage. With or without changes this German team can get all three points from the resilient swedes but they’ll have to play a lot, lot better than they did against Mexico.
