Costa Rica vs Serbia

Costa Rica have become a regular fixture at the World Cup thanks to their relatively ‘easy’ qualifying environment, they surprised many in 2014 when they made it all the way to the quarterfinals. Serbia are relative newcomers as an independent nation having played before as Serbia & Montenegro and as part of the highly successful former Yugoslavia before its break up.
Both teams come into the tournament in somewhat indifferent form both having lost several games in recent friendly fixtures, though Serbia have put in some good performances. Serbia also have notably the bigger names in their ranks with many of their players players in the top team leagues in European football while most of Costa Rica’s players are best described as ‘journeyman’ footballers plying their trade in the lesser leagues around the world.
Much is expected from this current crop of Serbian players and they’ll need a good start if they are to qualify from this group with the behemoth of world football Brazil tipped to secure first. While Costa Rica have surprised in previous tournaments, they are seriously lacking quality all over the pitch and while they are on a down trend in term of long term performance Serbia are on the opposite spectrum and are improving as a team and showing quality in their play.
